Abstract

Full Presentation (PDF)

This presentation will provide an overview of important techniques used for diagnosing malfunctions in gearboxes and rolling element bearings. Over the years, many techniques have been developed to monitor and diagnose the health of gearboxes and bearings. This will review some of these methodologies using several case histories. It will cover the basic time and frequency domain analysis along with newer signal processing techniques such time synchronous averaging, amplitude and phase demodulation, gearbox and bearing signal separation, envelope analysis and spectral kurtosis, etc. The effectiveness of each scheme will be demonstrated using seeded fault data of gearboxes and bearings. The user must be careful in selection of an appropriate analysis technique for the each application.
